Northland Prescription Discount Program Provides Cost Savings for Local Residents

In an effort to provide Minneapolis and its surrounding communities with more affordable access to health care, prescription benefits manager Paramount Rx has established a free prescription discount program to help residents save money on medications. The program is open to the public to utilize at area pharmacies, including preferred provider Cub Foods which has the service available at all stores.

To participate in the program, residents can simply print a Northland Discount Rx card from the program website and present it to their local pharmacy each time they fill a prescription to receive discounts on all FDA-approved prescription drugs. On average, card users save 40 percent off generic drugs and 15 percent off brand-name medications.

“The Northland Discount Rx program provides a valuable resource for those in the community managing significant medical and prescription costs,” said Steve McCann, vice president of pharmacy for Cub Foods’ parent company SUPERVALU. “We’re proud to be a part this program to give our customers more access to affordable medical prescriptions and ultimately help them save money.”

The Northland Discount Rx program provides online tools to help card users locate a participating pharmacy and research drug pricing and availability, including generic alternatives from the convenience of their own homes.

Local businesses, healthcare facilities and other area organizations are also encouraged to share the free prescription discount program with employees and customers. To receive more information about printed card deliveries, interested organizations can contact Paramount Rx at http://paramountrx.com/main/contactus.aspx.

“The Northland Discount Rx program was established for those most affected by the rising cost of medications, including the uninsured and underinsured who are paying the most for health care,” said Michael Sallusto, executive vice president of Paramount Rx. “There are many families and individuals in the Minneapolis area who are struggling to pay for their prescriptions, so we’re happy to offer this resource for residents to save money and reduce health care costs.”

The Northland Discount Rx program is a valuable tool for those who may receive little to no health care coverage from their employers, such as part-time workers. Many people are also facing higher co-pays and deductibles that apply to medications with existing insurance plans, and the Northland Discount Rx program can sometimes offer better savings. Participants are encouraged to use a best practices approach when filling their prescriptions, first checking the price through their insurance and then comparing it to their discount card rate.
